2004-05-04 'Smoking habit' is not a disability Ahhh, springtime. I was so inspired by the beautiful weather that I politely asked my boss whether, during office hours, I could step outside, stand around for ten minutes or so, and then come back and resume my day. I requested this time in addition to any allotted lunch time. Oh yeah, I asked if I could do this 3-4 times a day, every day. I'll let you guess what his response was. Now I'm not exactly one of these anti-smoking militants and some of the smoking bans in this country have gone a bit too far. With that said the law is the law. For some reason, smokers have decided that this means they can just walk out of the office at random points throughout the day while others, whose only crime is that they DON'T have a disgusting habit, continue to slave away. I get especially irked at the revolving door receptionist post that develops in my office since we can't seem to hire one that doesn't smoke. Clients love having to reintroduce themselves over and over again to (and get disconnected by) various "fill ins" who often can't operate a switchboard properly in the first place. Tell you what smokers, I won't keep running to the convenience store to feed my candy bar habit if you can manage to hold on for two hours until lunch time, deal? |
